Privacy policy
Who you are is your business. Here's exactly what we collect, why, who touches it, and how you stay in control.
The short version
We collect the minimum needed to run a community: an email address and a few profile details you choose to give us when you create an account. We never sell your information, never share it with advertisers or data brokers, and never use it for anything beyond running this site. There are no advertising trackers or advertising cookies here — only a privacy-friendly, cookieless page-view counter that can't identify you or follow you across sites. You can update or permanently delete your account yourself, any time, from your account page.
What we collect, and when
When you create an account: your email address, a password, your first name, an optional last name, and how you identify (orientation and gender). Your password is stored only in securely hashed form by our authentication provider — we can never see it.
When you contact us: the name, email address, topic, and message you type into the contact form. These go to our team inbox through a secure relay and are not stored in our database.
Automatically: like nearly every website, the services that host and serve this site may log standard technical data such as your IP address and browser type when delivering pages, fonts, and scripts. To understand which pages are read, we use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that counts page views without cookies, without cross-site tracking, and without building a profile of you; it doesn't store personal data or fingerprint your device. We run no advertising trackers of any kind. When you log in, your session is kept in your own browser's local storage so you stay signed in — it isn't a tracking cookie.
A word about sensitive information
We ask how you identify because this is a community by and for lesbians, gays, and bisexuals — that's the whole point of the site. That information is provided by you, voluntarily, when you sign up. It's used only to shape the community, it's visible only to you and the people who run the site, and it is never shared, sold, published, or used for advertising. We understand better than most what this information can mean, and we treat it accordingly.
How we use your information
To operate your account and sign you in; to send account emails like verification links; to send the community newsletter to verified members (you can ask us to stop any time); to respond when you write to us; and to keep the site safe. That's the complete list.
Who handles your data
We don't sell or rent your information to anyone. A small number of service providers process it on our behalf, strictly to make the site work: our database and authentication provider (Supabase) stores account data with row-level security so each member can only ever read their own profile; our email delivery service (Resend) sends the newsletter to verified members; our contact form relay (Web3Forms) forwards messages to our inbox without exposing it; our analytics provider (GoatCounter) counts page views without cookies or personal data; and our hosting and content delivery providers (GitHub Pages, Google Fonts, jsDelivr) serve the site's pages, fonts, and scripts. Each sees only what's needed for its job.
One page-specific note: the contact page embeds a feed of our posts from X (formerly Twitter), served by X itself. Loading that page lets X log standard technical data and set its own cookies under X's privacy policy. We request the embed with personalization tracking disabled, and the rest of the site loads nothing from X.
Beyond that, we would disclose information only if the law genuinely required it.
You're in control
From your account page you can update your profile details, change your password, or permanently delete your account — no email required, no waiting period, no retention. Deleting your account immediately removes your profile and login; anything you authored for the site is disassociated from your identity. If you want a copy of the information we hold about you, or have any other request, use the contact form and a real person will handle it within a few days.
Retention
Account information is kept for as long as your account exists and is removed when you delete it. Messages sent through the contact form are kept in our inbox only as long as needed to deal with them.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information — for example, when the member network features launch — we'll update this page and change the date below before the new practices take effect.
